Effects of Stress
Everyday stress can accumulate in the human system without fully discharging. Stress can be viewed as mild trauma, with the body never having the opportunity to fully recuperate. (see Effects of Trauma)
Physical stress from past injuries may accumulate in our bodies as well. With all injuries the body will immediately try to heal or at least accommodate to the injury, creating what is called a lesion pattern. This response by the body may work well for us and we seem symptom free. However we may experience painful symptoms as a result of a later accident. For example, while we may seem to have recovered from an injury in our youth (say a fall on our tailbone) and not have lasting symptoms after a mild concussion, the body’s adaptations to these injuries may become evident later in life when we have a car accident and have a whiplash injury to our neck. Suddenly our back is painful and we are experiencing headaches which may be traced back to our previous injuries.
Craniosacral therapy addresses accumulated stress in the body: it can track the physical stress or lesioned patterns and support the body to correct these, even going back to birth trauma. It also enhances the Parasympathetic nervous system, bringing deep relaxation, centering and stillness to the body. This is the place of deep renewal.
